Dolphine Oda is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist. She was a professor of oral pathology and the director of the OP Biopsy Service at the UWSOD. After 37 years of academic distinguished legacy, she retired and transitioned to private practice at the end of 2022. She is practicing oral pathology at PhenoPath laboratories in Seattle, WA.
Dr. Oda received her BDS degree from the University of Baghdad, MSc from the University of Manitoba (UM), residency in surgical pathology from UM, School of Medicine, and residency in oral pathology at Indiana University School of Dentistry. She has over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts. She has given over 150 invited talks and over 220 continuing education courses locally, nationally, and internationally. Dr. Oda has reached an even wider international audience for more than a decade through a popular online series, Case of the Month, an interactive monthly publication. She is currently reaching national and international audiences through her Instagram and Facebook account discussing oral pathology daily. Teaching is her career’s pride and joy. She has a total of 31 teaching awards including the Distinguished Teaching Award, the UW’s highest honor for outstanding teaching, Bruce R. Rothwell Teaching Award and 29 awards voted on by dental students. Her last award was in 2022 given by the last class she taught, after which she retired. She has many more honors and awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oral Cancer Foundation for her commitment to oral cancer patients.
Dr. Oda appreciates and treasures the years of student and clinical community’s support and looks forward to continuing serving the patients of the dental community in Washington and the regional states through private practice reading their biopsies for many more years to come.
