The world of biologics in oral surgery have exploded since the 1990’s. Concurrently so has the world of natural medicine. Where these two worlds meet, autologous platelet products offer a natural boost to the body’s natural healing capacity. Surgery relies on tried and tested protocols, and natural biologics have a wealth of literature support as well as clinical applications. From improved healing to enhanced materials handling, there is no reason not to incorporate platelet products as we care constantly seeking for ways to increase our odds of success. We will cover the biology, literature support, and different uses of PRP (platelet rich plasma) and PRF (platelet rich fibrin) as an adjunct to the concepts covered in the first lecture.
Learning Objectives:
Centrifuge concepts.
Review the history of platelet aggregates.
Discuss the biology of platelet aggregates.
Common uses of PRF.
Demonstrate the process of creating platelet products.
